ChargePoint has announced two new charging infrastructure partnerships in the US. The agreements will add more than 200 public charging ports in the Southeast and deploy ultra-fast charging stations at 12 highway travel plazas across Pennsylvania and New York.
The larger of the two initiatives extends ChargePoint’s existing partnership with Florida-based Optimus Energy Solutions. Under the agreement, Optimus will deploy more than 200 new public charging ports across the southeastern United States, while ChargePoint will act as the exclusive provider of charging hardware, software and associated services.
Optimus will own and operate the sites, which are primarily planned for locations with high charging demand, including quick-service restaurants and retail centres. According to the companies, these sites have been selected to combine charging access with amenities that encourage utilisation and improve the driver experience.
“Our partnership with Optimus Energy Solutions demonstrates the strength of combining ChargePoint’s industry-leading charging solutions with experienced operators who are committed to building and scaling charging networks,” said Rick Wilmer, Chief Executive Officer of ChargePoint. Together, we are enabling a more seamless charging experience for drivers across the eastern U.S.”
“Our partnership with ChargePoint has been instrumental in establishing Optimus as a leader in EV charging infrastructure,” added Ben Pauluhn, President of Optimus Energy Solutions. “Leveraging ChargePoint’s technology and support allows us to meet the increasing demand for fast, reliable charging solutions.”
Just one week later, ChargePoint announced a second partnership focused on long-distance travel. Together with Onvo, a travel plaza operator headquartered in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the company plans to deploy ultra-fast charging stations at travel centres located along major highways in Pennsylvania and New York.
The first phase of the project will cover twelve Onvo locations. Each site will be equipped with ChargePoint Express Plus charging systems designed for high-power charging and simultaneous charging of multiple vehicles from a single installation. The stations will be located alongside amenities such as restaurants, retail outlets and convenience services.
According to ChargePoint, the sites have been selected to address gaps in highway charging infrastructure and improve charging availability for drivers undertaking longer journeys.
“ChargePoint’s collaboration with Onvo highlights our commitment to ultra-fast charging infrastructure at locations that offer driver amenities,” said Wilmer. “By enabling fast, reliable charging at highway rest stops, we are making long-distance EV travel seamless and accessible.”
Harman Aulakh, Vice President of Marketing at Onvo, said the deployment will help the company meet growing demand from EV drivers. He added: “As more drivers make the switch to electric vehicles, we are proud to offer convenient, high-performance charging at Onvo locations across our footprint.”
