Magnetic Coupler
磁性耦合器
Magnetic couplers transmit torque across a sealed containment shell without physical contact between the driving and driven shafts. An outer magnet ring driven by the motor rotates an inner magnet ring attached to the impeller shaft through the hermetic isolation shell — eliminating shaft seals and the leakage risk they introduce.
AIC Engineering designs hermetic magnetic couplers for pumps, mixers, and sterile fluid handling. Torque capacity, speed, fluid pressure, and temperature drive magnet grade (NdFeB / SmCo), isolation-shell material (316L stainless steel, PEEK, Hastelloy), and the air gap between inner and outer magnet rings. FEA simulation verifies the decouple torque and slip behaviour before build.
The result is a leak-free, maintenance-free power transmission that protects operators and the environment from hazardous, corrosive, ultra-pure, or sterile fluids. Configurations range from compact low-torque couplers for laboratory pumps to high-torque units for chemical process pumps.
Key Features
Hermetic, Leak-Free
Torque transmitted through a sealed isolation shell — no shaft seals, zero leakage, IP68 hermetic containment.
Up to 500 N·m Torque
Decouple torque tuned from 0.5 to 500 N·m by magnet grade, ring size, and pole count — sized to your load.
Corrosive-Fluid Ready
316L stainless, PEEK, or Hastelloy isolation shells for chemical, pharmaceutical, and sterile service.
Overload Slip Protection
On overload the magnet rings slip instead of transferring torque — protecting driven equipment from damage.
Configuration Options
Built to order — send torque, speed, fluid, pressure, and temperature requirements.
| Configuration | Description | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Coaxial Hermetic | Inner and outer magnet rings coaxial across isolation shell; standard hermetic pump layout. | Sealed chemical pumps, laboratory fluid handling. |
| High-Torque SmCo | SmCo magnet rings for elevated-temperature service where NdFeB would demagnetise. | Hot process fluids, steam-coupled systems. |
| PEEK Shell | Non-metallic isolation shell eliminates eddy-current losses at high speed. | High-speed pumps, energy-efficient drive. |
| Hastelloy Shell | Hastelloy C isolation shell for aggressive corrosive media. | Acids, solvents, aggressive chemical service. |
| Linear Coupler | Linear magnetic coupling for reciprocating motion across a sealed barrier. | Sealed actuators, dosing pumps. |
| Custom Integration | Customer-defined mounting, flange, and shaft interface — built to print. | OEM pump and mixer integration. |
Configurable Parameters
No fixed catalogue grades — each coupler is designed to your torque and service specification. Typical ranges below.
| Parameter | Typical Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Torque Range | 0.5 – 500 N·m | Decouple torque tuned by magnet grade & ring geometry. |
| Max Speed | up to 3600 RPM | Higher speeds favour non-metallic shell to limit eddy loss. |
| Magnet Material | NdFeB N42 / SmCo | SmCo for service above 150 °C. |
| Isolation Shell | 316L SS / PEEK / Hastelloy | Non-metallic shell avoids eddy-current heating. |
| Temperature | −20 to +150 °C | Extended range with SmCo magnet option. |
| IP Rating | IP68 hermetic | Sealed containment — no dynamic seals. |
| Lead Time | 3 – 6 weeks | Depends on shell material and torque class. |
Values are typical design ranges — confirmed torque, dimensions, and lead time are provided per quotation after magnetic-circuit review.

Discuss Custom RequirementsFrequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about our magnets, customisation, ordering and shipping.
- How does a magnetic coupler transmit torque without contact? +
- An outer magnet ring driven by the motor rotates an inner magnet ring across a sealed isolation shell via magnetic field — transmitting torque hermetically with no shaft seal and zero leakage.
- What torque range can magnetic couplers handle? +
- AIC designs hermetic magnetic couplers from 0.5 to 500 N·m decouple torque, tuned by magnet grade, ring size, and pole count to the load; speeds up to 3600 RPM.
- Which fluids are magnetic couplers used with? +
- They are ideal for hazardous, corrosive, ultra-pure, or sterile fluids in sealed chemical pumps, pharmaceutical mixers, and laboratory systems — anywhere leakage must be eliminated.
