Samarium Iron Nitrogen (SmFeN) Magnet

钐铁氮(SmFeN)磁体

Samarium Iron Nitrogen (SmFeN) boasts a wide range of applications across diverse industries, thanks to its exceptional magnetic properties and superior temperature stability. In the realm of electric and hybrid vehicles, SmFeN magnets are employed in drive motors, enhancing energy conversion efficiency and providing robust driving forces. They also find use in high-efficiency motors, enabling smaller and lighter motor sizes without sacrificing performance, which is particularly advantageous in industrial automation and robotics. In the wind power generation sector, SmFeN magnets are utilized in wind turbine generators, boosting conversion efficiency and increasing power generation capacity. Their stable magnetic properties make them well-suited for this renewable energy application. Furthermore, SmFeN magnets are widely applied in industrial machinery, including electric tools, compressors, and pumps, where they offer high power output and efficiency, thereby enhancing productivity and reliability. The audio industry also benefits from SmFeN magnets, as they are used in loudspeakers and headphone drivers to deliver superior audio quality and a broader frequency response range. In the medical field, these magnets play a crucial role in equipment such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines and magnetic guidance systems, providing the strong and stable magnetic fields necessary for accurate diagnosis and treatment. SmFeN magnets are also valued in aerospace and defense applications, including navigation systems, sensors, and other critical components, due to their high-temperature stability and strong magnetic properties. Additionally, they are used in precision instruments that require high accuracy and reliability, such as scientific instruments, measurement devices, and navigation systems. Consumer electronics, such as smartphones, tablets, and other portable devices, also incorporate SmFeN magnets to enhance the performance and efficiency of components like vibration motors and speakers. Lastly, these magnets have potential applications in energy storage systems, such as electric vehicle batteries and supercapacitors, to improve energy conversion efficiency and overall system performance.

Flexible SmFeN Magnets

In addition to bonded and moulded parts, AIC supplies flexible samarium iron nitrogen (SmFeN) magnets — nitrogen-treated SmFeN powder blended with rubber or plastic binders, then calendered into sheets or continuously extruded into round wire and strip profiles.

Flexible SmFeN combines the high energy product and excellent corrosion resistance of SmFeN with the bendability and impact resistance of bonded elastomer magnets. Typical (BH)max is 3–6 MGOe — filling the performance gap between flexible ferrite and bonded NdFeB — making it ideal for wearables, magnetic-health products, magnetic zippers, and skin-contact applications.

Magnetic Sheets

Calendered anisotropic or isotropic SmFeN sheets in custom thicknesses and panel sizes. Supplied as flat sheets, slit rolls, or die-cut discs, rings, and complex shapes. Optional adhesive, PVC, or protective film lamination for direct mounting.

  • Flat sheets — standard or custom panel dimensions, thickness to order
  • Slit rolls — narrow to wide widths on cardboard or plastic cores
  • Die-cut parts — rings, strips, and complex geometries from sheet stock

Extruded Magnetic Wire

SmFeN compound is continuously extruded through round dies to form flexible magnetic wire in custom diameters. Supplied in coils or cut lengths — soft, bendable, and washable; ideal for magnetic zippers, sewn-in closures, embedded channels, and wearable assemblies.

  • Round wire profiles — custom diameter, supplied in coils or on spools
  • Highly flexible — bends freely without cracking; suitable for sewn-in and hidden applications
  • Magnetic strip rolls — plain or adhesive-backed, paired with wire for complete flexible SmFeN kits

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about our magnets, customisation, ordering and shipping.

What is a SmFeN (samarium iron nitrogen) magnet?
+
Samarium iron nitrogen (SmFeN) is a fourth-generation rare-earth permanent magnet with strong corrosion resistance and temperature stability, used in bonded form for wearable and magnetic-health products.
What are SmFeN magnets used for?
+
SmFeN is used in wearable devices, magnetic-health products, sensors, and small motors where corrosion resistance, light weight, and stable performance outweigh maximum energy product.
Is SmFeN corrosion resistant?
+
Yes. SmFeN has far better corrosion and oxidation resistance than NdFeB, and can be used in bonded forms without coating in many wearable and biomedical-adjacent applications.
